I had this note about music that influenced me over the year, queued up a couple weeks ago and didn't release it until now because of some somber news. I thank you for your indulgence. It is so true that there are no mistakes in the universe.
Over the holidays there were several people from high school and college that found me via Facebook and that started a whole reminiscing period. It is indeed an extra special time to celebrate family and friends. It brought up loads of memories, some I remembered with precision, others I had totally forgotten until a friend detailed it out for me and WOW!! what a rush of memories. It's all good because...well...it's apart of my history.
By now you MUST know that I believe that music is one of the most powerful "state changers" there is and it's one of the directives I give clients to alter their current perceptions.
We're told "change your mind" if you don't like how you're feeling. Music is a powerful lever. In an instant, a bad mood is transformed into an overwhelming feeling of gratitude or lethargy into "on-fire".
Sometimes it's the beat that pumps the blood and moves the body. Sometimes it's the words that move soul and inspires the spirit and sometimes it's the person or the story that spawned the song. I like it all because it all serves to create real results in the real world.
The News...
I found out that a friend I met in 1985 died last year. He was only 42. I discovered the news just about on what would have been his 43 birthday. Faron Hash didn't just have a unique name, this dude was the personification of unique and different. He was one of those people that I've met in my life that altered my very perception of reality and the world as I saw it. Did you ever meet someone like that? One of the things Faron fueled in me was a passion for music and power behind it. He introduced me to the appreciation of music as a drug, a tonic, a friend, an ally. While we explored the industrial, punk, alternative music scene in the late eighties, it gave me access to become more self-expressed and free in the broadest sense of the world. That time period I can clearly attribute to being the most prominent influence on who I am today. And for that I can thank Faron Hash, one of the kindest, most gentle hell-raisers I knew.
Oh and if you're wondering what the heck we listened to, what we slammed to, etc... Here is a sampling: The The, Ministry, Coctau Twins, New Order, Siouxie and the Banshees, Gang Of Four, Tones On Tail, Violent Femmes, Cramps, Kate Bush, Cure, Gene Loves Jezebel, Bauhaus, Sisters, Skinny Puppy, Severed Heads, Divinyls, Feargal Sharkey, The Cult & Shriekback.
[Take a deep breath because this is a state change to the original note]
Now if you're interested in a sampling of a couple of the songs I used this year to shape my reality and in trainings. [Psssst...if you're a trainer, you are leaving impact on the table if you aren't using music to move your audience.]
This year there is definitely a theme with electro-house music. Being a solo-prenuer and working from the home office, I really wanted stuff that got me up and moving.
The World Is Mine, David Guetta - inspired confidence and power to be on purpose. There a couple different mixes on Amazon but I liked the mix I linked to because it added a trippy feel to it.
Usually I use Pandora and seed in "Bob Sinclar" or "Benny Benassi" or "Daft Punk" and train it to play selections I like. It seemed that these songs kept cycling through quite a bit after I trained it!
So now you know just one thing I do to cause state changes through the day and those state changes fuel me up to be of the best possible service and stay on mission to BE the change!
Thank you for the indulgence today and publicly sharing this news.
